Water activities resuming at Chew Valley Lake

Thank you for your patience while we temporarily had to suspend water-based activities at Chew Valley Lake, due to naturally occurring blue green algae.

Water activities resuming at Chew Valley Lake

From Thursday 4 July sailing will resume and from Sunday 7 July 2024 all other water recreational activities will resume.

We have been collecting water samples across the lake and are pleased that the algae levels have now dropped well below levels that are considered harmful to animals and humans.

Therefore, we’re pleased to announce that:

From Thursday 4th July sailing will resume

From Sunday 7th July 2024 all other water recreational activities will resume

Our sampling programme will continue, as normal, in the background in case another spike in algae levels occurs. If this happens, we’ll be back in touch.

Bank fishing on the Northshore at Chew.

We can also announce that part of the Northshore on Chew will be reopening on Sunday 7th July 2024.

However, there is still a section of the grassy eroded bank, that is strictly out of bounds. This area is fenced off and is unsafe to fish from. Please keep an eye out for the signage and do not enter the area.

To access the Northshore you need to park in Picnic Area 2.

Fishing in front of the out of bounds eroded bank, will only be allowed once the water recedes, and anglers can walk in front of it on dry land.
