Whitehouse Lane, Shipton Moyne – Mains Renewal

We’re investing in mains renewal to ensure a more resilient supply for the future.

Our investment

We're investing in essential upgrades to the water network serving Shipton Moyne and the surrounding area as part of our mains renewal programme.

This project represents a significant long-term investment in the local water network and will help ensure a safer, more resilient supply for many years to come.

We'll be replacing ageing water mains throughout the Shipton Moyne area. The existing network is largely made up of older cast iron pipes, which have a history of bursts and leaks due to their age. By installing new, modern pipework, we are strengthening the reliability of the network and improving performance for customers.

Why the work is needed

  • The current water mains are ageing and prone to bursts and leaks

  • Replacing them will significantly reduce future failures and emergency repairs

  • The upgrades will support ongoing and future development in the area

  • Customers will benefit from improved water quality and more reliable supply

What the work involves

The scheme includes the replacement of approximately 1.4km of ageing water mains within the Shipton Moyne area.

Work will take place across highways and local roads. Where possible, we will use trenchless installation techniques such as directional drilling to minimise ground disturbance.

In some areas, traditional open-cut excavation and sliplining techniques will be required. All excavations will be kept to a minimum and reinstated as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Traffic management and access

Some disruption is unavoidable during construction. Temporary traffic management will be required, including road closures in certain areas.

Current traffic management includes:

  • Whitehouse Lane, Shipton Moyne road closure: 8 June 2026 – 17 July 2026
  • The Street, Shipton Moyne road closure: 8 June 2026 – 17 July 2026

We'll work closely with the local highways authority to minimise inconvenience and ensure any diversions are clearly signposted.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained wherever possible, and customers will be notified in advance of any work that may affect access.

Benefits of the project

  • Reduced risk of leaks and supply interruptions

  • Improved reliability of the local water network

  • Increased resilience of the water supply infrastructure

  • Reduced need for emergency repairs

  • Infrastructure that will continue to serve the local community for years to come
