Does your business need help funding a water-saving project?

We’re encouraging new and innovative ideas to reduce water use in businesses. Whether your business is big or small - hairdressers or farmers, cafés or factories - everyone can apply for funding support.

We’re already helping businesses improve the water efficiency of their washrooms and toilets through our business efficiency visits, and now we’re looking for other projects. These could include:

  • Using rainwater
  • Optimising washing processes in food, beverage, laundry, or manufacturing
  • Treating wastewater for on-site reuse
  • Harnessing new technology to reduce mains water demand

If it saves water, we want to hear about it. It doesn’t have to be “first-of-its-kind” thinking, but it might be a first for your business.

Project requirements

Projects must meet two key requirements:

  1. Deliver water efficiency now – The project must save mains tap water and demonstrate a tangible, sustainable reduction in water use (litres per day saved as a result of the project).
  2. Provide a minimum water-saving cost benefit that is better than £0.80 per litre/day saved, based on the Fund contribution applied for.

Example 1

  • Project cost: £5,000
  • The Fund contribution: £3,000
  • Project calculation shows savings of 3,800 litres/day
  • Cost benefit = £3,000 ÷ 3,800 litres/day = £0.79 per litre/day

Example 2

  • Project cost: £25,000
  • The Fund contribution: £15,000
  • Project calculation shows savings of 20,000 litres/day
  • Cost benefit = £15,000 ÷ 20,000 litres/day = £0.75 per litre/day

Funding available

We will contribute to, or match-fund selected projects that meet our criteria.

Once the available funding is awarded, we will not be able to consider any further applications.

If further budget is allocated, Bristol Water will relaunch the Fund.

Bristol Water reserves the right to stop the Fund at any point. We will update our website to make it clear when the cap is reached, if the Fund is extended, or if the Fund is stopped.

Application process

Applications can be submitted all year round. We review applications monthly and award funding to projects every month that meet our criteria.

To inspire others, we are keen to promote great water-saving projects implemented by our customers.  Successful projects may be featured as case studies on our website and social media channels.

For all proposals, we will carry out:

  • Eligibility checks
  • Financial and due diligence checks
  • Assessment against our funding criteria

Following initial checks, our internal judging panel will review applications.
