Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Valves

The process you must follow for RPZ valves.

Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Valves are devices that prevent backflow. They protect against backflow of fluids that can be a significant health risk. To follow the rules, you must install them correctly. They should undergo regular testing to demonstrate that they protect against backflow and do not waste water.

This Approved Installation Method (AIM) sets out requirements for the installation, commissioning, and periodic testing of RPZ valves.

Notification

You must notify us when you:

  • Install an RPZ valve
  • Relocate an RPZ valve
  • Extend or alter plumbing with an RPZ valve
  • Change the use of plumbing with an RPZ valve
  • Disconnect plumbing with an RPZ valve

You must send notifications to Bristol Water at least 10 working days before the work starts, using one of the following forms.

Test Report

A test report is valid only if a competent PRZ valve tester conducts on-site testing of a RPZ valve. You can search for a local tester here: WaterSafe | Local Approved Plumbers

Acceptable test report forms can be found below.

Submission of RPZ test report
