A brand new learning portal for KS2+ brimming with over 50 learning resources has been launched by Bristol Water.
A fun new education portal has just been launched by the region's water provider to both educate and debunk on all things water.
Designed throughout lockdown, the Bristol Water Foundation is the first of its kind from any utility company and is brimming with over 40 colourful experiments, worksheets and more, for KS2 upwards on all things water and environment.
Sharna Smith, professor of watery education at Bristol Water, said: “During the first lockdown, we got thinking about home-schooling and how to make it fun. We’ve worked hard to map content around the national curriculum with the help of real teachers, pupils, subject experts and graphic designers.
“And this is just the start. Many of us don’t know where water comes from or why we should be saving it. Often people think we just drop some chorine and away it goes. But the reality is there’s a mind-blowing amount in cleaning and distributing water at the turn of a tap, whenever you need it.
“We’d encourage you all to try a navy shower which emulates what navy sergeants did at sea to save the limited water on the ship! It involves turning the shower off while you shampoo and clean.”
Sally Melvin, CEO of Bristol children’s charity Ablaze said: “This new educational offering from Bristol Water is fun, engaging and packed with interesting activities linked to the curriculum whilst also teaching children about all things water. It also gets the important message of conservation across.”
Local children’s book author Michelle Cassar, commented: “This stunning interactive hub for kids will inspire everyone who sees it (not just kids!) to get involved in learning about protecting our life force - water - on our blue planet.”
The water company have also pledged to work with over 30 local organisations in 2021 to help young people prepare for the world of work. This includes young people from the region’s schools, universities and youth groups.
A special mentoring scheme has been set up by the company to benefit those from underrepresented backgrounds.
