An innovative new sport, known as Wing Foiling, has been introduced at Bristol Water’s Cheddar Reservoir.
Wing foiling is similar to kite and wind surfing – but differs because it allows participants to glide over the surface of the water.
Bristol Water have thrown their support behind the introduction of wing foiling at the Somerset reservoir, which is one of the first inland venues in the region to offer the thrilling new sport and is a safe place to practise due to the flat water.
The club offers classes for beginners with one of its three qualified teachers.
Currently open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the club will be open seven days a week from 1 April 2026.
Anyone wishing to give it a go can rent equipment from Cheddar Watersports – formally Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club – who also offer sailing, wind surfing, paddle boarding and kayaking.

The reservoir is such a fantastic place to try a variety of water sports, and as it’s inland it’s a lot safer for beginners too.

Cheddar Watersports operate on the reservoir through a carefully managed approach to keeping everyone safe – members of the public are not allowed to use the lake unsupervised.
