Bristol Water opens applications as Chew Valley Reservoir Run returns for second year for children’s hospital

Bristol Water has opened applications for its second annual fun run at Chew Valley Reservoir to raise money for The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity.

The event, to be held from 9am on Sunday 20 September 2026, will cater to runners of all abilities with participants able to choose the distance which suits them best, from 2.5k, 5k or 10k.

All participants will be given a personalised runner’s bib and at the finish line everyone will receive goody bags and medals – with trophies going to the winners of first, second and third places for each race.

Tickets cost £15 with all proceeds going to The Grand Appeal, the official charity for Bristol Children’s Hospital. Founded in 1995 and known for its partnership with Aardman Animations, the charity has raised over £50 million to fund life‑saving equipment, family accommodation, research, and creative therapies for sick children.

Last year the Reservoir Run helped raise £2,450 for The Grand Appeal. The charity’s next project is the development of a new Patient Hotel, the first of its kind in the UK, for sick children and their families.

The Grand Appeal said: "We're incredibly grateful to once again be part of Bristol Water's Reservoir Run and are so thankful for their ongoing commitment to supporting The Grand Appeal. Every step and stride around this picturesque route will help raise vital funds for sick children and their families at Bristol Children's Hospital. We'd encourage people of all ages and abilities to sign up and take part in this special event, knowing that while they're enjoying a fantastic day out, they'll also be helping to make life better for children facing some of the toughest challenges imaginable."

A participant from last year’s reservoir run said: “The race itself was absolutely lovely with plenty of really friendly marshalls. Facilities in the event village were great and the goodie bags are probably the best I’ve ever had, especially the home made flapjack!”

Dani Twelvetree, Director of Customer Communications & Engagement at Bristol Water, said: “We are so pleased to be hosting this fun run at Chew Valley Reservoir again. The area is beautiful and full of nature so it really lends itself to an event like this.

The proceeds of the fun run will go to The Grand Appeal and all they do to support patients and their families at the Bristol Children’s Hospital. We are thrilled to be supporting their amazing work.”

As well as an on-site restaurant and diverse wildlife, Chew Valley Lake boasts a variety of natural habitats and beautiful views, making it the perfect place for runners and supporters to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
