Water Bar 2023 round up

Written by Toby Dennett | Oct 31, 2023 11:37:52 AM

We’ve wrapped up our 2023 Water Bar season, a year where we’ve supported more events and festivals than ever before! Our Water Bar travelled to 11 events and our portable water towers supported a further 3, from Shepton Mallet to Weston-Super-Mare. We enjoyed a wide variety of events, from community festivals like Keynsham Music Festival to one of the largest in the world, Glastonbury.

We’ve chatted to an estimated 21,000 of you over the summer, giving tips on how to save water, the benefits of being on a water meter, and answering your questions on all things Bristol Water. This is alongside meeting some very friendly - and thirsty - dogs!

At our chosen events we supplied an estimated 31,000 litres of free water. That’s enough water to fill around 387 bathtubs! The mission of our Water Bar is first and foremost to encourage customers to use refillable bottles, reducing the need for single use plastics. Thanks to our Water Bar we’ve stopped a potential of 27,000 bottles needing to be bought, meaning less plastic ending up in our rivers and oceans.

“It was great to have Bristol Water support us at this year’s Albert Goodman Weston Super Half. Bristol Water and the Weston Super Half share a committed vision for sustainable events, and so having Bristol Water provide us with their water towers and thus allowing us to eliminate single use plastic bottles across the event was fantastic.” –Ash Goodman, Weston Super Half Marathon Organiser.

Customers not only loved our crisp, clean water on hot summer days, but our free sunflower seeds and toothy timers were a big hit with adults and children alike. All freebies were handed out with a water saving message, can you use leftover bath water to grow your sunflower? Or perhaps that cup of water that’s been sat on your bedside table for a few days, anything but water straight from the tap! Lots of people took up the challenge, and lots of children promised us that they will turn the tap off while doing their teeth, saving potentially 18 litres every time they brush. “[The Water Bar] created an amazing "welcome" to the Festival site. Keeping our visitors, volunteers, staff (and trees!) in water.” – Festival of Nature.

Bristol Water is a daily part of our customers lives, ensuring a reliable and high-quality supply of water 24/7. It was a joy to meet with our customers face to face and experience some of the best events and festivals in the South West.
