New Supplies & New Mains
There are three options open to developers for new mains and services, these can either be:
- Obtained directly from Bristol Water
- From a Self Lay Provider (SLP) (using the self lay option whereby the assets will be adopted by Bristol Water)
- From a new appointee (NAV). NAV’s can provide wholesale water and/or sewerage services for a specific area. If you choose a NAV they will need to apply to become the service provider for that area. Once granted they will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the onsite infrastructure.

Please Note – Following the changes made by the Introduction of the Retail Water Market, from April 2017, if you are applying for a non-household/commercial supply or building water only supply, then you will need to appoint a water retailer to be registered to that supply. If you do not appoint a retailer, then the market will appoint one for you. A list of retailers in the market please can be found here.
Our Developer Interface Team will be able to assist if your query relates to the installation or diversion of a main.
However, if the query relates to a Self Lay application or site, you should contact our Development Services Team.
Our Development Services team will deal with any enquiries from a Self-lay Provider.
Our New Supplies team will help you if you are enquiring about the connection of a service pipe onto a main. They also deal with the disconnection of supplies that are no longer required.
