Water Regulations at home

The purpose of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 is to ensure that you can have complete confidence in the quality of the drinking water you receive.

They apply to all plumbing systems, water fittings and appliances connected to the public water supply.

We all have an obligation to comply with the Water Regulations and water companies have an obligation to enforce them.

Who made the Water Regulations?

The Water Regulations are statutory regulations approved by the Government to help to ensure that any plumbing system in your property is installed and maintained correctly.

What do the Water Regulations cover?

The five main purposes of the Water Regulations are to protect against:

  • contamination
  • waste
  • misuse
  • undue consumption
