The list below is a summary of the main departments and, for larger ones, their associated sub-departments as well as an indication of the type of work/roles you will find within. This is not an exhaustive list and is just given to indicate the breadth of positions and their functions within the firm.

Networks

Types of roles

  • Strategic Operations - responsible for our large trunk mains network that mostly moves water to and from treatment works and reservoirs

  • Transport - looking after our large fleet of vehicles and equipment

  • Supply mains network – responsible for our customer supply network including responding to and fixing bursts, monitoring pressure, inspecting and visiting on customer queries

  • Leakage – monitoring the network and identifying leaks.

  • New supplies – responsible for helping smaller developments needing a supply

  • Development services –responsible for larger developments six or more dwellings needing a supply

  • Water Regulations – Regulations are national requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, water fittings and water-using appliances beyond our supply network. This department ensures that they are adhered to by customers to prevent amongst other things inefficient use of water and possible contamination

Production

  • Procurement and logistics - contracts, purchasing, stores.

  • Treatment plant and pumping station operation - engineering technicians, instrument technical, shift plant attendants, craft and instrument technicians, filter maintenance

  • Operations room - shift manager, optimisation and development engineers

  • Customer Services - This department is responsible for all water services questions and queries. Billing questions are dealt with by our joint billing company BWBSL (Jointly run with Wessex Water)

Finance

  • Treasury and management accountant, financial controller, Tax manager

  • Payroll, pension administrator, insurance

Water Quality

  • Analytical services

  • Water quality scientist

  • Sampling technician

Corporate Affairs

  • Pr and Marketing, Web and intranet

  • Fisheries and recreations

  • Leisure & Restaurants

Engineering

We are about to embark on our biggest investment programme ever. Over the next five years we will spend over £260 million and the engineering department will be heavily involved in the planning, design and implementation of much of this budget
