Sunday 25th saw the second ever Pike Competition held at Chew Valley. Forty invited anglers went afloat at 9am and fished through to 5pm in mild but breezey conditions. The day stayed dry but the wind made fishing uncomfortable at times and many anglers found feeding fish difficult to locate. Any fish weighing more than ten pounds were recorded and counted towards the anglers catch.
At the 'weigh-in' 68 fish had been taken with 8 weighing over 20lbs, the biggest at 26.09 falling to Martin Cottis. But it was Carl Garratt who won the title of 2009 Champion with a total of 8 fish totalling 111lbs 7ozs and his catch included two fish of over 20lbs.
Carl was presented with the carved fish trophy by Fisheries Manager Bob Handford whilst the competitors enjoyed a meal and a pint in the restaurant. It seemed everyone enjoyed the day and the occasion. Many thanks to all who took part. |
