Saturday saw the first ever pike fishing competition at Chew Lake. The contest was run by Bristol Water as a fun day and 40 anglers went afloat for the nine hour event. The angler weighing in the most weight of fish of ten pounds and over would be the winner -- 39 fish were weighed in, five of which were over the 20 pound mark.
Biggest fish of the contest was taken by MIKE NEATE with a 25.12 fish, but the winner was STEVE MARSHALL who took five fish weighing 21.04, 19.00, 18.12, 18.04 & 13.04 for a total weight on 90.08. He was presented with the Tournament Trophy, a beautifully carved wooden pike which will be displayed at Woodford Lodge. After the event the contrestants enjoyed a buffet meal and drink at the Lodge Restaurant. All enjoyed the day and look forward to a repeat event next autumn

Thursday saw the last day of the second session of pike fishing at Chew Valley this autumn. After a mild start the weather turned very cold with frosts and NE winds making the fishing a little more difficult. Despite this there have been four more fish over thirty pounds this session. Biggest fish so far is a 35.10 taken by A MCPHEARSON. This fish fell to a lure. On the same day two other 30s were also caught, a 31.06 by PAUL MIDDLE and a 30.02 by K WALSH. And yesterday D ELDRIDGE captured another big fish tipping the scales at 32.04. Planty of other fish have been taken including many high 20s. This brings the total number of 30lb+ fish to 5 with 52 others weighing 20 pounds or more also recorded.
The final six days of boat fishing begins tomorrow with two more bank only sessions to follow. All available boat and bank permits for this year have now been allocated.
