How do I let you know I have moved house?
Who is responsible for private water supplies?
The Private Water Supplies Regulations set requirements for private sources of water. With the exception of Northern Ireland, Local Authorities are responsible for checking the safety and sufficiency of private water supplies in their area – normally by the Environmental Health departments. In Northern Ireland this is the responsibility of the Drinking Water Inspectorate at the Department of the Environment.
The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Water Bylaws only apply to properties where the water is provided from the public supply – this includes properties with a private water supply which have a mains water backup supply. These regulations and bylaws do provide a useful code of practice for installation and back flow prevention requirements for private water supplies.
