Water Quality - The Question of Chlorine

One of the most frequently asked question from customers is still ‘why do you use chlorine?’. Some, it seems, drink bottled water because they don’t like the taste or smell of chlorine in tap water. ‘Like drinking out of a swimming pool’, they say.

Well, we use chlorine to make sure the tap water is kept clean on its way through the pipes. It’s incredibly effective at destroying harmful bacteria and viruses. The level of chlorine is tested at every stage ... and it certainly isn’t going to hurt you.

In fact only a tiny carefully controlled amount is added to the water — the equivalent of one 5 ml medicine spoon’s worth in every 10,000 litres —- and that’s just enough to keep it clean all the way to the taps. The problem is that some people are more sensitive to taste and smell than others and may notice even the little chlorine that’s left.

Actually, there’s a really easy way to get rid of the taste or smell and be able to drink tap water that tastes exactly like bottled water costing thousands of times more. Just run some water into a clean jug or bottle and put it in the fridge for an hour or so. Then drink it - you’ll be amazed at the difference this makes.
