Plumbing Operative

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Plumbing Operative to join our Network team who are collectively responsible for looking after your water from when it leaves our treatment works, to the moment it arrives at your tap.

As Plumbing Operative you will be out and about in our supply area visiting customers’ premises, both domestic and commercial, to complete metering surveys and install water meters.

Your work will contribute to our Free Meter Option and Change of Occupier (selective) metering strategies which are really important for our business.

Key responsibilities:

Visiting customer premises, usually by appointment, to survey their internal water system to determine the most appropriate location to fit an internal meter, including carrying out water supply route checks;
Assessing the complexity of each job through to conclusion;
Engaging with customers as necessary;
Fitting internal water meters, which will involve modifications to the existing pipework;
Undertaking minor modifications to cupboards and pipe boxing in order to fit internal meters, as agreed with the customer;
Using Bristol Waters’ corporate mobile technology system to update job information and to provide an accurate record of what work has been carried out on site;
Support the work of the wider Metering Team and Network Service, including carrying out traditional meter surveying duties and assisting our Metering Surveyors on site as necessary.

You will have an appropriate level of plumbing experience and qualification, such as NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing and as you will be out and about, you will need a full UK Driving Licence.

We need someone who has effective communication skills and a clear understanding of good customer service. You will need to be computer literate and familiar with basic software packages.

You will be flexible and methodical and have the ability to work on your own initiative and have the confidence to make decisions and take responsibility for them.

An understanding of risk assessment and health and safety, specifically when working with plumbing tools and equipment is essential.

It will involve extensive collaboration with other teams within the business, particularly Finance and Strategy and Regulation, and an external focus to ensure that the business is aware of developing issues within the water industry and asset management.
